Role on Project
Role on Project: Lead UX designer and Researcher
Responsibilities: User research, wire framing, prototyping, creating of mockups, conducting usability test, etc.
Duration

User Research
SUMMARY:
In my research for the El Lugar app, I used mixed methods to understand our users better. Initially targeting tech-savvy users, I found a wider range, including less tech-oriented individuals. This led to a design accommodating various tech skills. Key insights included a need for table reservation and promotion features, influencing the app's design to be more user-centered.
PAIN POINTS:
Complex Navigation:
Users find it challenging to navigate the app due to complex menus and unclear labels. Hence, the need to simplify the app's navigation by categorizing menu items logically
Inconsistent Visual Design:
Users may be put off by inconsistent visual elements like varying fonts or colour scheme. I will use a consistent design system standardized color palette, typography, and UI elements throughout the app to create a cohesive and polished look.
Difficult Menu Browsing:
Users struggle to browse the menu due to cluttered or poorly organized menu screens. Implement a user-friendly menu layout with clear categorization, high-quality images, and concise descriptions for each dish. Users may be put off by inconsistent visual elements like varying fonts or colour scheme. I will use a consistent design system standardized color palette, typography, and UI elements throughout the app to create a cohesive and polished look.
Limited Feedback during Ordering:
Users may feel uncertain about the status of their orders. Provide real-time feedback during the ordering process. Use visual cues, to reassure users that their orders have been received and are being processed.

User Journey Map
DesignProcesses
Ideation:
Sketches were generated based on the users needs and pain points. The aim was to be able to design for user needs that they were aware of and unaware of
Wireframing & Prototypes
Wireframes were generated on Figma to show how I came about the design solutions
Usability Study
We wanted to understand the user journey for placing a meal order, checking out, and completing an order on this app, to know how users are using it
FINDINGS
- On the first round of User testing of the lo-fi prototype I learnt that
- User easily navigated through the ordering process.
- Users think the user flow is very good.
- Users didn’t seem confident in inserting their personal details.
- On the Second round of User testing of the lo-fi prototype I learnt that
- Users thought buttons were inconsistent.
- Users still don’t have a means to monitor their order.
- Users comlained that the checking out summary is unclear.
Mock Ups & High Fidelity Protoype
The design is well-optimized for responsiveness across different devices and screen sizes for a consistent user experience.
The site also is well-organized with clearly labelled navigation options like tutorials, about us, blog, courses, and contact.
The design elements such as the color scheme, typography, and layout are cohesive and align well with the site's luxury and beauty theme
Accessibility
Considerations
Text Size and Font: Allow users to adjust text size and font preferences within the app settings to accommodate those with visual impairments.
Color Contrast: Maintain a high color contrast between text and background elements to aid users with low vision or color blindness in reading content.
I Inserted two sentence summaries describing each accessibility consideration applied in your designs.
IMPACT
Environmental Impact: Digital menus and online ordering can reduce the need for printed menus and paper receipts, contributing to environmental sustainability.
User-Centered Design: The app's user-centered design serves as a model for other businesses, emphasizing the importance of understanding and meeting customer needs through research and design.
LEARNINGS
User Research is Vital: El Lugar's success is rooted in comprehensive user research, emphasizing the significance of understanding customer preferences, behaviors, and pain points..
